Our Grosslehen

Upon your first visit at the Grosslehen you probably wouldn’t even guess the historical background of our beloved house. Originally built as a farmhouse 300 years ago, our ancestral home has changed over the last few years into an extraordinary feel-good place. A close relationship with nature, tradition and heartfelt hospitality have always been top priorities of the Grosslehen.

300 YEARS OF HISTORY

A HOUSE WITH TRADITION

The history of the Grosslehen reaches back over 300 years and is inseparably connected with our personal family history. There has always been farming on this special patch of ground in Fieberbrunn.  Furthermore, also guest beds were part of the historical farmhouse – however, only very few in order to add income besides the farming.

INSIGHT INTO OUR (MORE RECENT) GROSSLEHEN HISTORY

OUR HISTORY

28th OF NOVEMBER 1940

Veronica Huber is born as the fifth out of six children at the Gasthof Strub Waidring. With only 16 years she had to single-handedly run an alpine pasture on the Steinplatte. Later Vroni (Veronika) goes to Fieberbrunn for work – there she gets to know and love her soon to be husband Josef Geisl.

1963

Through her marriage with Joseph, Vroni comes to the Grosslehen – back then there had been no streets up to the farmhouse.

1964

Annemarie is born as the first of three children.

1965

Finally! The construction of a street simplifies the way up to the Grosslehen.

1969

Martina, the kind soul of the house, sees the light of day.

1970's

The Grosslehen gets to be known as a well-liked snack station and changes into an inn towards the end of the decade.

Markus, today’s host is born.

1985

A tragic stroke of fate fell on the family. Due to the early death of Josef Geisl, Vroni and her three kids are on their own.

1986

The former stable is reconstructed into a restaurant and the barn is converted into cosy rooms.

BEGINNING OF THE 2000’s

The rooms of the second story in the farmhouse are enlarged and remodelled.

THE GEISL FAMILY

THE GROSSLEHEN, OUR HOME

For generations the Grosslehen has been owned by the Geisl family. Today’s owners Bettina and Markus Geisl grew up on the farm of their parents and share their love for nature, the mountains and a deep passion for enjoyment. Together with the whole team of the Grosslehen, they share their enthusiasm with the guests. Furthermore, on a daily basis, they strive to make the Grosslehen to a place “more” than only a hotel: breathtaking refuge in nature, exclusive place of retreat, temporary home.

Even though Vroni is not the head of the Grosslehen anymore, she is a stranger to rest and quietness – even with her 80+ years she is still energetically working in the kitchen. Insider tip: the desserts of our grandma Vroni.
